K-500 Rotomat KT-3G capacitive thickness gauge on a blown film line

Capacitive Thickness Gauges for Film Extrusion

In film extrusion, consistent thickness across the full web width is critical for quality and material efficiency. Capacitive contact sensors measure the film's thickness by detecting changes in the electrical field between two probes pressed directly against the film surface. This direct contact ensures a stable, well-defined measurement geometry, delivering highly accurate and repeatable results even on films with varying surface properties. Integrated into the production line, these sensors provide continuous measurements at full line speed, enabling real-time feedback to the die control system — reducing scrap and replacing time-consuming manual offline sampling with full inline process documentation.
