Non-contact capacitive thickness sensor on a blown film line

Non-contact Thickness Gauges for Film Extrusion

In film extrusion, consistent thickness across the full web width is critical for quality and material efficiency. Capacitive non-contact sensors measure the film's thickness by detecting changes in the electrical field between sensor and material — without ever touching the sensitive, still-hot surface. This prevents deformation and surface defects while delivering highly accurate, continuous measurements at full line speed. Real-time feedback to the die control system ensures a tight thickness profile, reduces scrap, and replaces time-consuming manual offline sampling with full inline process documentation.
