Thickness Gauges for Barrier Film Extrusion
Measuring the total thickness of multilayer barrier films requires reliable, high-precision technologies suited to the demands of continuous production. X-ray sensors measure the total thickness directly at the film bubble — immediately after the die, where the film is still hot and fully formed — delivering a comprehensive, non-contact thickness profile across the full circumference at line speed. Capacitive contact sensors, positioned downstream at the cooled and flattened film, complement this by providing highly accurate total thickness measurements once the film has reached its final, dimensionally stable state. Together, both technologies enable continuous real-time feedback to the die control system, ensuring tight thickness tolerances, minimizing scrap, and replacing manual offline sampling with full inline documentation — essential for the strict quality requirements of modern barrier film production.
